The 6th and 3rd Member Congress of the Taiwan Association of Specialist Nurses was held on March 30 at the Ding Yue Jipin Restaurant in Taichung. It started with a clinical drama and dance by the specialist nurses of National Cheng Kung University Hospital, showing the cohesion and enthusiasm of the specialist nurses. Founding Chairman Cai Xiuluan and Chairman Tong Hengxin kicked off the conference, stating that in 2023, the number of members of the society exceeded 10,000. Chairman Tong Hengxin reported that the conference development focuses are:

  1. Focus on the quality of patient care and improve the professional capabilities of specialists;

  2. Clarify the scope of work practice, reasonable nurse-patient ratio and salary;

  3. Expand cross-domain connections between specialists and deepen cooperation with medical and nursing societies;

  4. Consolidate the Asia-Pacific Expert Alliance and link up international benchmarking resources.

Vice President-elect Hsiao Bi-khim was specially invited to give guidance and express to all attendees that Covid-19 has swept the world and the world has seen our medical standards. Many countries want to know how Taiwan did it? The extraordinary performance of Taiwan’s professional nursing colleagues and medical personnel makes it a great honor for me to represent Taiwan internationally. Jiang Zhixiong, general manager of Digital Health of Hon Hai Technology Group, was invited to give a keynote speech at the conference. On behalf of the Taiwan Digital Health Alliance (HiMEDt), he shared about smart medical care to protect health - a sustainable relationship with patients from inside the hospital to outside the hospital, emphasizing on home care and remote medical consultation. and electronic prescription signatures to provide patients with continuous care. Introducing the CoDoctor AI artificial intelligence-assisted diagnosis platform, which emphasizes end-cloud integration and original solutions for virtual and real interaction. Technology serves as a bridge to assist Taiwanese medical staff instead of replacing them, achieving twice the result with half the effort. It also plans to discuss the innovative care model of the Mobile Nurse/NP smart dispatch platform with the Taiwan College of Nurse Practitioners. Professor Qiu Huizhen, National Taipei University of Nursing and Associate Legislator of the People’s Party without Division, proposed five shortcomings of specialist nurses on the theme that specialist nurses play an important role in the medical industry. The solutions are:

  1. Promote the nurse-to-patient ratio;

  2. Practice projects should have health insurance benefits;

  3. Legislate the crime of being a specialist nurse.

  4. Promote professional expertise and establish trade unions;

  5. Establish trade unions to gather strength for labor rights.

The conference also commended the winners of the Annual Contribution Award, 15 outstanding junior nurse awards, 11 excellent academic performance awards in master’s and doctoral classes, and 198 Everlasting-Gold Medal members who have supported the association for 18 years since its establishment. The Academy Gift Station Endorsement Contest and The Voice of NP Singing Contest were held for the first time, with a total of 18 specialist nurses enthusiastically participating. Taiwan’s Minnesota Medical Products Company and Shengqiao Health Company also provided sponsored speeches, and 11 manufacturers set up stalls at the venue. This conference promotes exchanges between specialist nurses and other fields, laying a solid foundation and fruitful prospects for future development.
