Can lung cancer be detected early? Can AI detect lung nodules? Cathay Hospital\'s actual measurement of 3,000 cases: the accuracy is expected to exceed 90%

Lung cancer is the top ten cancer with the highest mortality rate. AI can detect lung nodules with an accuracy of over 90%

Lung cancer has been the top ten cause of cancer deaths in Taiwan for more than 10 years. Because there are often no obvious symptoms in the early stage, and when it is detected by X-ray, it often exceeds 1 centimeter and has the risk of metastasis. Currently, low-dose pulmonary computed tomography (LDCT) examination can be used to screen for it. In early-stage lung cancer, it is helpful to detect pulmonary nodules smaller than 1 cm. However, due to the large number of LDCT images and the reliance on physician experience, interpretation is time-consuming and laborious.

In order to assist doctors in improving the efficiency and accuracy of diagnosis, Cathay General Hospital and Yunxiang Technology cooperated to develop an AI-low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) detection system for pulmonary nodule detection, which has been used for more than 3,000 cases and more than 450,000 scans. High-resolution imaging and the development of a highly sensitive AI system are expected to make lung nodules more visible in the future and help diagnose lung cancer early.

Cathay General Hospital pointed out that the current AI sensitivity of this pulmonary nodule detection system has reached 91.95% in detecting nodules above 6mm, and it only takes 20 seconds to produce detection results and automatically sort high-risk pulmonary nodules. And feedback characteristic information, through the continuous accumulation of database, the AI system will be continuously updated, which is expected to help clinicians provide important opinions as a reference for diagnosis and achieve the purpose of precision medicine.

Cardiovascular conditions can also be monitored at home with remote real-time communication to help stabilize control.

Cardiovascular disease is one of the top ten causes of death in Taiwan after cancer. Considering the patient’s home life and rest after discharge is the key to determining the prognosis. Cathay General Hospital has established a cardiovascular remote care center that uses the latest technology and software , providing remote care services to patients in need, including monitoring equipment such as electrocardiogram meters, blood pressure, blood oxygen, and blood glucose machines. As long as the patient is instructed by a personal caretaker, the patient can measure and upload it by himself when he returns home.

Cathay General Hospital pointed out that when the values returned by the patient are abnormal, the personal caretaker will actively contact the patient or family members to track the patient’s data. The medical team can monitor the patient’s data in real time, communicate with the patient in real time, and help the patient adjust his or her lifestyle in a timely manner. To maintain health, 83% of patients currently receiving remote care expressed that the care service has a positive impact on disease control.

Health management is more efficient. Health checkup reports and prenatal checkup records can be viewed online in real time.

As public health awareness increases, the demand for personal health check-ups and corporate employee health check-ups is also gradually increasing. The health examination center affiliated to Cathay Health Management has begun to provide an online appointment system for public and corporate health examinations. It is expected to launch the latest health examination APP in 2022, allowing users to view personal health examination information and the latest health examination reports. Enterprise users can also use Understand employee health management through online systems.

At the same time, Cathay Postpartum Care Home has cared for 11,000 mothers and babies in the past 9 years, and has developed a baby care APP, ranging from prenatal check-up reminders, pregnancy health education to postpartum consultation, extending to baby video and growth records; at this stage, it also adds prenatal check-ups for mothers during pregnancy. Records and fetal growth dynamics help mothers to control all major parenting matters with one hand through smart devices.
