The Central Epidemic Command Center held a press conference today (2/4) and announced 25 new locally confirmed cases, 11 of which were confirmed to have turned negative into positive during home isolation. There are also 46 imported cases, 23 of which were confirmed by on-site testing and 23 of which were confirmed by home testing. Commander Chen Shizhong said that the cluster of migrant workers at Yaxu Company in the Farglory Free Trade Zone has gradually subsided, and now the epidemic related to Riyi Logistics Company needs the most attention.
Chen Shizhong pointed out that there were 12 new cases in Kaohsiung area yesterday, 9 cases were related to the infection chain of the Kaohsiung Port case, and the other 3 cases were confirmed by positive tests after the quarantine period. It is worth noting that several confirmed cases were detected in an epidemic prevention hotel in Kaohsiung on the same floor. The hotel has been emptied out as a precaution and the personnel have been transferred to a centralized quarantine center. People who have stayed at the hotel after January 19 are being recalled for re-examination, and genetic sequencing is being used to clarify the case.
In terms of the Taoyuan epidemic, Chen Shizhong said that the epidemic related to Yaxu has come to an end. Yesterday, only one more confirmed case was confirmed. The list is quite complete. After 2/7, all staff in the district must receive a negative PCR test before they can be issued a new pass.
However, the epidemic situation at Riyi Logistics Company is “spreading”. Chen Shizhong pointed out that 10 new cases were confirmed yesterday, all of which were positive for the first time. Currently, 1,250 personnel of Riyi Logistics Company are being monitored, of which 250 are in anti-epidemic hotels and centralized quarantine stations. The other 1,000 people are quarantined for 5 days and then screened. The priority is to expand the firewall, and inspections will be carried out based on the situation after 5 days. Conduct epidemic survey and confirm the scope of impact.
As Taoyuan, Taipei, and Kaohsiung each have cases of infection in kindergartens, the number of confirmed cases due to accompanying illnesses has also increased. Chen Shizhong called for priority to be given to children who have lived with their family members for a long time and who are at low risk of severe illness (such as being younger and not suffering from multiple chronic diseases). There are the most factors to consider when taking care of children, but these two points are the top priority when it comes to accompanying patients.

Luo Yijun, deputy leader of the medical response team of the command center, said that genetic sequencing will continue during the Spring Festival, and the current total of Omicron virus strains is 422 imported cases and 222 local cases. Of the 422 overseas Omicron cases, the vast majority were screened within 7-10 days, 96% were detected within 7 days, and 98.6% were diagnosed within 10 days. But more than 300 people have breakthrough infections.
Luo Yijun said that since January 1, 2022, there have been 516 new cases in the local area, and the number of cases aged 0-9 has increased, ranking fourth. The vast majority of diagnosed cases are Taiwanese in their 20s to 40s, with slightly more women than men. The first moderately severe local case was added today. She is a female patient in her 70s from Yadong Hospital. She has not been vaccinated and has multiple chronic medical histories. She has moderate pneumonia and is currently being treated and monitored in the negative pressure isolation ward.
The confirmed symptoms of local cases have also changed. Luo Yijun pointed out that the most diagnosed cases in the previous week were throat symptoms, while this week, coughs were the main symptoms, but the proportion of both symptoms was around 50%. The top four confirmed symptoms with the highest proportion are cough, fever, runny nose, nasal congestion, etc.
It is imperative to shorten the quarantine policy and open up gradually according to the epidemic situation
Chen Shizhong pointed out that as the epidemic develops, it will be imperative to shorten the entry quarantine policy in the future, and will adopt a gradual and phased opening based on medical capacity and vaccine implementation. It also calls on people to manage their health independently and avoid contact with non-specific people. The higher the quality of the people and the better the independent management, the more beneficial it will be to epidemic control.
