Hot weather is also the peak time for stroke! Drinking too little water may lead to irritable mood? 1 Seek medical attention immediately if symptoms appear

Is the peak of stroke caused by hot weather? Drinking less water and having mood swings are mostly dangerous

Taipei City Deputy Mayor Cai Bingkun was shocked to learn that he had a suspected stroke and was sent to the hospital. He is still under observation and treatment. May the continuous hot temperatures in summer increase the risk factors for stroke? Doctors remind people who belong to high-risk groups to pay special attention to the control of chronic diseases. When stroke symptoms are suspected, they must seek medical attention as soon as possible. Only then can they have a better prognosis and reduce the risk of disability, incapacity and even death.

Dr. Chen Long, director of the Stroke Center of Shuang Ho Hospital of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, said in an interview that some people do not know that they have risk factors for stroke, such as age, three high blood pressure (hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and hyperglycemia), and hemangioma. If you are one of the three high-risk groups, you should pay more attention to proper control in summer, including regular medication and regular measurement.

“Whether you know your risk factors, whether you take medicine on time, and whether you have good control are three different things!” Dr. Chen Long reminded that in the past, most people only believed that the large temperature difference between indoor and outdoor in winter was the season for stroke. In fact, hot weather is also another peak risk for stroke.

Dr. Chen Long pointed out that the hot weather in summer makes the human body lose water easily, and blood vessels contain a lot of water. When there is insufficient water, the blood tends to thicken and the blood flow slows down. If coupled with arteriosclerosis of the blood vessels, it will May cause blood clots to cause infarct stroke.

Dr. Chen Long also said that hot weather may also affect mood and blood pressure. Once blood pressure fluctuates too high and you have hemangioma or severe arteriosclerosis, it may cause hemangioma or blood vessel rupture, leading to hemorrhagic stroke. In addition, frequently going in and out of air-conditioned rooms, being in an environment with excessive temperature differences, or drinking a lot of alcohol may increase cardiovascular stress and the risk of stroke.

I can’t smile and raise my hands to say hello. I have three high suspicions of having a stroke. I’m going to the hospital right away.

When a stroke is suspected, how long does it take to seek medical attention for the best prognosis? Dr. Chen Long said that you should first learn to recognize the signs of stroke. If you are unable to complete any of the actions of “smiling, raising your hands, and saying hello”, and you have high-risk factors such as three high-risk diseases, you should seek medical attention immediately at the onset of the disease. Medicine is the most correct approach.

Dr. Chen Long explained that stroke is a blockage of cerebral blood vessels that prevents brain cells from receiving blood supply. Within one minute, millions of brain cells may die and cannot regenerate. For ischemic stroke, intravenous thrombolysis can be injected if conditions are met within the golden three hours; arterial thrombectomy can be performed within 8-24 hours if blood circulation permits. The sooner you arrive at the hospital, the better the prognosis.

The principle of treatment for hemorrhagic stroke is also the same. When a suspected stroke occurs, send the patient to the hospital immediately. This can control the patient’s blood pressure and cerebral pressure and prevent the blood clot from becoming larger. The earlier the patient arrives at the hospital, the more treatment options will be available. Dr. Chen Long reminded that many pre-hospital deaths were due to subarachnoid hemorrhage. The time to hospital is the key to saving lives. It is important to seek assistance from the ambulance unit as soon as possible.

Only 1/3 of stroke patients return to work! Three highs must return for regular check-ups

Dr. Chen Long said that the proportion of strokes is not particularly reduced in hot weather. Even if they receive thrombolysis, thrombectomy and other treatments and undergo rehabilitation, only about 1/3 of stroke patients can return to work; 1/3 need to be lightly dependent on others; 1/3 of patients completely require help from others to take care of themselves. Therefore, daily health maintenance and three-high control are very important.

Dr. Chen Long reminded that in order to prevent stroke, patients with three high blood pressure must return for regular check-ups and measurements. Taiwan Ministry of Health and Welfare, Health Promotion Administration also recommends mastering the “333” prevention rule: control the three highs, not eating salty and oily foods, not smoking, and not drinking excessively; maintain regular blood pressure measurement, moderate and regular exercise, and exercise at least every day 30 minutes is an important principle to help avoid the threat of stroke.
