Not only helping the seriously ill Xiongfeng? A study of 70,000 impotent men confirms: "Viagra" may help reduce the risk of cardiovascular death
Taking “Viagra” not only helps to “regain male glory”, but also reduces the risk of premature death in men and extends life expectancy? Research published in “The Journal of Sexual Medicine” shows that erectile dysfunction drugs such as Viagra and Cialis may help reduce the risk of cardiovascular-related death and overall mortality in men, but the causal link still needs further work. Research confirms it.
A study of 70,000 impotent men shows that Viagra can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular death by 39%
A research team from the Huntington Medical Research Institute in the United States retrieved the medical records of male patients with erectile dysfunction from a large database. These patients did not have any major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE, Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events) before. About 70,000 subjects were recruited by the research team and randomly interviewed for about 14 years from 2006 to 2020.
Clinically, major cardiovascular adverse events are defined as: cardiovascular death, hospitalization for myocardial infarction, coronary artery reconstruction, stroke, heart failure, and unstable angina. The research team then compared patients taking phosphodiesterase inhibitor type 5 (PDE-5i) drugs, such as Viagra (Sildenafil) and Cialis (Tadalafil), with Subjects not taking relevant medications were compared.
The results showed that compared with those who did not take the drug, those who took PDE-5i drugs had a 13% lower incidence of major cardiovascular adverse events, a 39% lower risk of cardiovascular-related death, and a 25% lower risk of all-cause death. The research team believes that drugs that treat erectile function may also have a protective effect on cardiovascular disease and may be helpful in reducing cardiovascular mortality in men.

In addition, patients with diabetic cardiomyopathy who received tadalafil for a long time also found improvements in heart function in this study. Studies have shown that tadalafil significantly improved vascular endothelial function in patients with erectile dysfunction, while sildenafil helped reduce the end-diastolic pressure of the left ventricle of the heart, indicating that cardiac diastolic function was improved.
In fact, according to study lead author Dr. Robert A. Kloner, Viagra was initially used to treat angina, a chest pain associated with coronary heart disease. Later, after scientists discovered that it could be used to treat male erectile dysfunction, it was regarded as a symbol that could improve sexual performance and restore male virility.
However, the trial was not able to prove a cause-and-effect relationship between the PDE-5i drugs and improvements in cardiovascular problems. Dr. Kloner said that men who are free from cardiovascular disease are more likely to exercise diligently, adjust their diet, or have a normal routine, which is not necessarily related to their medication behavior. Whether PDE-5i drugs can be used in patients with neovascular disease requires more clinical data and large studies to prove.

Why can’t it get “harder” even after using Viagra? Doctor: 6 “Negative Medication Behaviors” to Avoid!
Despite its possible cardiovascular protective effects, Viagra is currently prescribed to treat erectile dysfunction. After taking Viagra, many men expect to “show off their prowess” in bed, but why are they still “downcast” during sex? Dr. Cheng Weiming from the Department of Urology, Taipei City Hospital Zhongxiao Branch, pointed out that the inability to achieve a normal erection after taking Viagra is not necessarily related to the dosage of the drug, but may be caused by the wrong usage method. Men are reminded to avoid the following 6 behaviors before taking Viagra:
Taking unknown drugs. Many patients obtain Viagra through online platforms and referrals from friends. The sources of these drugs are unknown, and there are often problems with insufficient drug doses and drug fraud. Not only are there concerns about physical harm after taking them, but they are also more likely to damage men’s self-esteem and create a vicious cycle of poor erectile function.
The dose is too low. Some patients are worried that the side effects of the drug will be too great, so they only take 1/4 or 1/8 of the original dose. If the dose is too low, it may not be sufficiently effective. It is generally recommended to take more than half to one pill (about 50-100 mg) to achieve significant effects.
Having sex too early. Viagra needs to dissolve in the stomach and take 30 minutes to an hour to take effect. Therefore, if you “raise your gun and go into battle” five minutes after taking the medicine, you will naturally come back disappointed. If you want to have sex immediately after taking the medicine, you can lengthen the foreplay after taking the medicine to give your body time to digest Viagra.
No penis stimulation. Just taking Viagra without catalyzing sexual stimulation (such as visual, auditory or other sensory stimulation, or sexual fantasies) will not lead to successful erection. Appropriate sexual stimulation is still needed after taking the medicine. Do not think that after taking Viagra, you can “support the sky” by doing nothing.
Consume a diet high in fat. Young couples are accustomed to having sex after dating, and the food during the date is too greasy, such as eating barbecue, hot pot and other large meals, which can easily reduce the effect of the medicine, or delay the effect for 2-3 hours. Viagra is best taken on an empty stomach, and high-fat meals should be avoided before sex.
Drinking and drug use. Whether it is alcohol or recreational drugs, they will impair erectile function, make Viagra less effective, and may worsen drug side effects. Patients are advised to avoid alcohol or recreational drugs while taking Viagra.
Dr. Cheng Weiming reminds patients that after seeking treatment, they should take the drug 5 times completely to test its efficacy, one of which should be used during masturbation. If the effect of masturbation is good, but the erectile function is not ideal when having sex with a sexual partner, it is necessary to consider whether sexual dysfunction is caused by psychological factors. If the effects of masturbation and sex are not as expected, it means that the urinary tract or capillaries may be damaged. It is recommended to seek urological examination as soon as possible.
