7 ethnic groups cannot take sleeping pills if they suffer from insomnia! Doctors reveal alternatives: Improving from "these things" can also help you sleep

Insomnia is a common civilized disease among modern people. Sleep disorders often make it difficult to fall asleep at night and lack energy during the day, causing physical discomfort and trouble in life. However, if you use sleeping pills as an aid, you may worry about addiction and be unable to stop taking them. To this end, the Taiwan Ministry of Health and Welfare, Food and Drug Administration invited Dr. Xie Huaide, a psychiatrist at Penghu Hospital of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, to share with the public knowledge about the common sleeping pill “Zuopei Mian” and insomnia.

Is “Zoupeimian” sleeping pill addictive? What is the daily dose for adults?

Dr. Xie Huaide said that Zolpidem is a “non-benzodiazepine drug” with a sedative and hypnotic effect. Its main function is to suppress the wakefulness center of the brain, making it easier and faster for people to fall asleep. Zuopeimian has high safety and is a commonly used drug in clinical treatment of insomnia. The current clinical treatment guidelines and Taiwan Food and Drug Administration recommend daily dosages of 5-10 mg for men and 5 mg for women as tablets, or 6.25-12.5 mg for men and 6.25 mg for women as long-acting tablets, and the recommended dosage should not be exceeded. .

Dr. Xie Huaide emphasized that if you can follow the doctor’s instructions and use the correct dose of Zopeim at the right time, you will be less likely to develop drug dependence. However, it should be noted that Zuopimian sedative and hypnotic drugs are mainly used to treat short-term insomnia. Generally speaking, long-term use is not recommended, and the treatment period should be shortened as much as possible, not exceeding 4 weeks, including the tapering period.

Zuo Peimian can’t eat like this! Common medical errors in medication use

Dr. Xie Huaide pointed out that in clinical practice, patients often encounter wrong medication methods, such as increasing the dose without falling asleep immediately after taking the medication, misusing Zopeim for non-indicated purposes such as mood irritability, or drinking alcohol while dispensing the medication. These incorrect medication methods can easily lead to drug overdose, drug dependence and tolerance.

In fact, sleeping pills are not the only way to treat insomnia clinically. Dr. Xie Huaide said that there are many causes of insomnia, such as overactive bladder, sleep apnea and other problems, which cause sleep disturbance or interruption, leading to insomnia. Therefore, when treating insomnia, doctors need to understand and treat the causes of insomnia at the same time, which is the fundamental solution.

In addition, since it takes a period of time for the body to metabolize Zopeimine, you need to reserve 7-8 hours of sleep time after taking the drug. If the reserved sleep time is too short, the drug has not been completely metabolized, which may affect the body’s ability to perform normal activities after getting up. and brain reaction speed, leading to increased risks of falls, car accidents, etc. Therefore, if it is a short nap or when sleep is interrupted in the middle of the night, it is not advisable to use the original dose of Zuopimian to help you fall asleep.

Dr. Xie Huaide reminds that patients with severe liver function impairment, myasthenia gravis, and sleep apnea should avoid using Zopimide. In addition, those who have sleepwalking, drove in their sleep, or engaged in other activities while not fully awake should also not use it. Assist Peimian to avoid danger. The Taiwan Food and Drug Administration also reminds that if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and use depression drugs or antihistamines, you must first discuss with your doctor before following the doctor’s instructions, and discuss your medication status with your doctor at any time.

Sleep “cognitive therapy” finds out the causes of insomnia with 5 courses of treatment to help you get rid of insomnia troubles

Dr. Xie Huaide pointed out that in the current treatment guidelines for insomnia, patients with primary insomnia are first recommended to undergo non-drug “sleep cognitive behavioral therapy” to find the internal and external causes of insomnia, and through sleep education , adjust the sleep environment, relax training, record sleep diaries and other methods to change the perception of sleep, develop good living habits and establish a good environment to improve sleep problems.

Studies have found that the effect of sleep cognitive behavioral therapy is more effective than medication alone, and the effect can last longer and help develop good sleep habits. Sleep-aid drugs are recommended for second-line treatment when the insomnia problem persists and cannot be improved.

The Taiwan Food and Drug Administration advises that when you have insomnia, you should seek medical treatment and seek professional treatment. If the doctor prescribes sleep aids such as Zopeximine, you must follow the dosage and recommended time prescribed by the doctor to avoid drug dependence and overdose. medications, etc., to ensure your own health and safety.
